Your day starts at Penrose Forest where we embark on fresh mushroom foraging with Highland local Joanne Dodd who holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Soil Science and Horticulture), a Graduate Diploma of Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology and Management, and Masters of Sustainable Agriculture. A master forager Joanne runs an urban production
system called the Quarter Acre Farm in the Mittagong which is her outdoor laboratory, growing a large variety of edible flowers, fruits, vegetables, herbs and edible ‘weeds’. She supplied local restaurants like Biota and Grand Bistro with her produce.
When you first arrive in the forest there’s a brief rundown on the mushrooms to look out for and then you head into the trees for your own unique experience of foraging. After an hour, it’s time for coffee and nibbles. Now ravenous and eager to try the freshest of mushrooms, we will pan fry a whole heap of your foraged goods to taste. Enjoy simple ingredients of butter and salt with the caramelised mushrooms and some fresh locally made sour dough bread.
Then it’s on to Bowral to explore Dirty Janes Antique Market & The Mill Browse the main street of Bowral taking in village life with all its small town charm and big city sophistication. An assortment of 70 stalls displays everything from Bakelite phones and enamel kitchenware to vintage lighting, old camera equipment and retro art. Wander down Bong Bong street to explore the Mill precinct from the organics Bare Body & Beauty PlayStation to Yes Cheese and the handmade artisan chocolates at Ms Peacock. There is something for all the family in this urban oasis.
We then take in some wine tasting or perhaps just warm coffee by the fire as the cooler autumn weather sets in. Bendooley
Estate is a magnificent 200 acre property owned by the Berkelouw family in Berrima that produces cool climate wines. Our visit
includes taking in the iconic Berkelouw Book Barn and Rare Book Room as well as enjoying either a afternoon tea or charcuterie/cheese platter with your Wine Tasting.
We then depart for Sydney getting you back to your hotel around 5pm
